The Caddo County Retired Educators held its monthly meeting on March 2. There were 12 members present along with a guest. Vice President Karen Mason called the meeting to order. The reading of minutes from February and roll call was given by reporter Debbie Tyson. The monthly devotion was also given at that time. The treasurer’s report was given by Sandra Whaley and Legislative Chair Harvey Mead. Southwest Director Pam Holland gave an update on upcoming bills dealing with education and also gave an update on the COLA bill that will have a positive impact on many retired educators if passed and signed by the governor.
Scholarship Chair Julie Mead gave a report on the scholarship fund for the group. Member Mike Weaver set up the schedule for the March meeting. The group toured the Nursing and Physical Therapy programs offered by CKTC. Assistant Superintendent Mike Newell assisted the group with the tour. Practical Nursing Director Laurie Stocking, gave a brief description of the programs before the group then toured each of the individual programs offered in Health Careers. Therapy Tech Instructor Kassie Pettit and Health Career Instructor Cassie Roberts each explained what the program offers the CKTC students and then, along with Laurie Stocking, took the group on an interesting handson tour of the facility. Following the tour, the group enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the culinary program. Vice-President Karen Mason then adjourned the meeting. The next meeting for the group will be Monday, April 13. A field trip to the Route 66 Museum in Clinton is on the schedule for that day. Members will carpool and meet at the museum at 10:30.
