WATONGA – Last week was the candidate filing period for various local and statewide races in Oklahoma, with Blaine County filings showing that many incumbents are not seeking reelection this year.
The county assessor’s seat will be on the ballot, along with two spots on the threeperson board of county commissioners, with no incumbents in the mix.
Locals will also vote in elections for the state Legislature, the U.S. House of Representatives and, in a rarity, both of Oklahoma’s U.S. Senate seats. Sen. Jim Inhofe is retiring after a long career in state politics, leaving four years of his unfinished term to be served.
Following is a list of candidates for Blaine County and statewide elections. The Watonga Republican will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of these races as the primaries and general election dates near, and will seek comment from as many candidates as possible
Ṗrimary elections will be held June 28 this year to narrow the field to one candidate from each party, and the general election is on Nov. 8.
Candidates who did not draw an opponent will be uncontested in their elections. First-term state Rep. Mike Dobrinski, R-Okeene, will be one such candidate after Okeene newsman Paul Laubach decided not to mount an independent challenge against him, after all.
