Canadian County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc. welcomes and announces its newest volunteers. Regina Sabatini and Dannie Mitchell completed their advocate training with a court observation and swearing-in by Judge Bob Hughey with the Canadian County Children’s Justice Center.

“We are thrilled to have them join us as volunteers and we thank them for their commitment to the children in our community. In all, 20 new volunteers became CASAs in 2020,” the organization said in a press release.

Because parts of Geary are in Canadian County, the organization would welcome participation from interested Geary residents.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the work of CASA has not stopped. New volunteer trainings are currently being held virtually, and videoconferencing remains an option for child visits, the press release said. While the need for advocates is always great, it is especially important now for children living in highrisk situations during periods of social isolation. With the various stages of reopening, it is expected that the need will become increasingly apparent as reports of child abuse and neglect are likely to increase.

In 2020, CASA volunteers served 125 children in 64 families. Permanency was achieved for 31 children and 17 families.

Volunteer training is held year round and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Learn more at: http://www.canadiancountycasa.org/volunteering.html. The organization’s next training begins Feb, 15, and the full 2021 training schedule can be found on our website: http://www.canadiancountycasa.org/assets/ccflex-training-schedule.pdf
