Commissioners, Treasurer Face Challengers in Upcoming Election

Filing for the upcoming elections in Blaine County ended April 3. They will face their first test on June 16.

Current county tax assessor Misty Kitson is unopposed in her bid to keep the seat.

Incumbent Blaine County treasurer Crystal Campos-Perez is facing challenger Sabra Barnes. Both are Republicans.

In the race for county commissioner district #1, incumbent Darryl Hicks is facing challenger Chad Scheihing and former commissioner Mike Allen. Hicks and Scheihing are both Republicans; Allen, who was a commissioner for eight years, is a Democrat.

In Blaine County District #3, incumbent Tracy Matli is facing challenger Thad Schenk. Both are Republicans.

In Oklahoma primary elections, voters will only see contested in party races, such as the treasurer’s race. In elections where there is an out of party challenger or challengers, such as the district #1 race, the June 16 vote will determine who will face the out of party challenge, in this case, Allen. That vote will take place at the general election on November 3.

Uncontested candidates such as Kitson will be seated by acclamation.
