Dearly Departed at WCT

Watonga Community Theatre opens with its raucous comedy, Dearly Departed, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, May 31, at the Liberty Theatre in Watonga. Other shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 1 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. Besides the show, WCT is also celebrating the grand reopening showcasing the Liberty façade and the retirement of its long-time director Patt Ward Curtin. Curtin celebrates more than 40 years of directing with 80plus shows to her name.

Dearly Departed is drop-dead funny. Set in the backwoods of the Bible belt, the beleaguered Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South is seldom tidy and always hilarious. Amidst the chaos, the family turns for comfort to their friends and neighbors, an eccentric community of misfits who just manage to pull together and help each other through their hours of need. Written by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones, this play is fun for all ages.

Kristen Jane Lockhart is assistant director for the production and Angel Barrett serves as stage manager. Local cast includes Josh Cox, Sondra Burch, Ginny Dobrinski, Amy Adams, Roy Espy, James O’Dell, Chelsy Gassen, Quintin Wray, Jerimiah Rogers, Corry Rogers, Melinda O’Dell, Kinsley Parham, Alexa Roane, Alaya Keierleber, Ashley Crews, Randy Powers, and Mary Ann Teply.
