MEDFORD – Some Blaine County residents reported feeling the shake Monday after a magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck near Medford, Grant County, north of Enid near the Kansas border.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred 4 miles northwest of Medford at a depth of 7.9 kilometers.

On social media, some residents of Canton and northern Blaine County reported having felt the earthquake. It could also be felt as far south as Oklahoma City and beyond, according to reports submitted to the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Earthquakes have become more common in Oklahoma since the turn of the century due to the rise of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and other factors.
