An information technology error caused an abundance of confusion over recent charges against a local coach.
Christi Matli, the Blaine County Clerk of Courts, said that when the charges against Clint Benway were input into the court system, the wrong statute was selected via autofill, resulting in the filing indicating there were drugs involved in the incident.
Matli said there were no drugs involved and Benway was not under the influence of drugs and had no drugs at the time of the incident. Since that time, the information technology consultant for the court has been alerted and the situation remedied. The charge against Benway is a misdemeanor.
Both the clerk’s office and the Watonga Republican apologize for the error and any confusion it may have caused.
