FEMA Assistance Offered for Winter Storm Damage

Blaine County residents who suffered damage during the recent winter storm are now eligible to apply for FEMA assistance.

The disaster declaration was put in place on Feb. 24 and all 77 counties in Oklahoma are eligible to apply in some regard. The Blaine County

The Blaine County Emergency Management team put out a statement saying Oklahomans with uninsured losses should apply for FEMA Individual Assistance as soon as possible

Ṫhere are multiple ways to apply, however, Blaine County Emergency Management notes that the quickest and easiest way to apply is by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov

If you are unable to register online you can call 800-621-3362 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

If you wish to apply for assistance but have insurance, you must first file a claim with your insurance company as soon as possible to see if you are eligible.

When applying for assistance you will need your phone number, address, Social Security number, a general list of damages, and insurance if you have it.

Many residents faced frozen or burst pipes after the winter storm. These pipe issues lead to damage to the floors, walls, and pipes in some instances

These damages are just one of the instances in which you may be eligible to apply for assistance. According to the Blaine

According to the Blaine County Emergency Management, disaster assistance may also include financial assistance for temporary lodging and home repairs, low-interest loans from the Small Business Administration to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

There is no guarantee for any assistance to be given, however, residents are encouraged to apply if they need it.

“There's no guarantee that they will. There's always that possibility,” Shelton said. “That's why we put that out there for them. So that we can gather as much information as we can to see if we would have enough total damage to suffice.”
