Filing for Municipal Elections To Begin Monday

Candidates interested in filing for municipal office in seven Blaine County municipalities may file declarations of candidacy beginning 8 a.m. February 3. Filing continues through February 5 at 5 p.m.

Candidate filing packets are available on the state election board website at https://oklahoma.gov/elec tions/candidates/candidate- filing.html and at the county election board.

The town of Calumet will seat two members of the board of Trustees and a town treasurer for fouryear terms. They will also seek two board members and a town clerk who will serve the reminder twoyear unexpired terms.

The citizens of Watonga will elect council people for Wards #1 and #2, each a four-year term, and for Ward #4, a twoyear term, as well as a member at large for a two-year term.

Candidates must be residents of their respective wards and have been for the past six months or more. The at-large seat is not ward specific, so the candidates may live anywhere in the city.

The town of Greenfield will seat two positions, one on the board of trustees for a four year term and the other for the remainder of an unexpired term.

Hitchcock will seek two members of its board of trustees for four year terms.

Longdale will also seek two members for the board of trustees, each for a four year term, as will the town of Okeene.

The town of Geary will seat council members for Ward #1 for the remainder of the unexpired term ending in 2027, for Ward #2 for a four-year term ending in 2029 and Ward #4 for a four-year term also ending in 2029. Also up for grabs is the job of city clerk, selected at large, and for city mayor, also an at large selection. Each of those jobs is for the remainder of an unexpired term. Ward council representatives must be residents of the ward they seek to represent.

At Canton, there will also be elections for two members for the board of trustees.

In order to run for a seat, prospective candidates must file at the county election board in the basement of the courthouse in Watonga. The filing will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 3-5.

Prospective candidates must be registered voters and residents of the ward they wish to represent.

The elections will be held on April 1. In the case of Watonga, the new council members will be seated on April 15.
