Watonga Former Students Association had its Meet and Greet and Banquet on May 25 at the Watonga High School Commons. We had a great group attending both groups. Leroy Richardson’s Richardsons Roller provided a delicious meal for the banquet. Kyle Hilterbran was our guest speaker. He updated everyone on the new construction and additions at the Watonga High School. Also, Miles Clewell, a 2023 graduate of Watonga High School provided entertainment for our guests by playing the snare drums and the marimba. He did a great job.
We honored some of our older classes present at the banquet. Maxine Strack and Delores Trumbley graduated in 1948 and were celebrating 76 years. Chub Edsall and Eloise Espy graduated in 1949 and were celebrating 75 years. Pat Halverson (Messer) graduated in 1951 and was celebrating 73 years, but she was only able to stay for meet and greet. Velma Freeburg (Stoops) graduated in 1953 and was celebrating 71 years. Doris Ware (Powers) graduated in 1955 and was celebrating 69 years. Yvonne Christensen (Milligan) registered for the banquet but couldn’t attend. She graduated in 1956 and was celebrating 68 years. Leon Wills and Jodene Carter (Poarch) graduated in 1959 and celebrated 65 years.
We gave five 1,000 scholarships to Kelsi Scheihing, Charolette Fritz, Adrielle Wills, Hiede Renteria, and Michaela Barcindebar.
The officers for the WFSA are Renee (Flynn) Ross President (1976), Joey Gooch Vice President (1967), Lisa (Major) Seitter (1981), Asst. Sec. Nichol (Fanning) Gould (1997), Asst. Sec. Larry Knisley (1964), Treas. Mary Ann (Davis) Teply, Members of the board were Curt Andrews (1971) and LarryRoss(1970). The Advisory Board is Linda (Glaseman) Woodruff CPA (1970), Veva (Tolbert) Daugherty Atty. (1965), and Tiffani Galagher Scholarship Oversight. WFSAofficers present were Renee Ross, Lisa Seitter, Mary Ann Teply, Larry Ross, and Curt Andrews.
The class of 1970 had 8 members present plus their spouses and a few more registered but couldn’t attend. Theclassof 1970 celebrated 54 years. Renee Ross said we would post the class pictures taken at the banquet on the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.co m/groups/Watonga.High. School )soon.
