The Watonga Former Students Association held its biennial – or everyother- year- banquet Memorial Day weekend.
It started with a meet and greet from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, which gathered more than 50 people. They had a tour of the new gym and sports facilities, followed by refreshments.
The number dropped for the banquet at 6 p.m. because the members of the Class of 1986 had a separate event planned. It was catered by L&K Country Barbecue.
The association honored two members of the Class of 1948 who graduated 78 years ago. They were Maxine Strack and Delores Trumbly. Eloise Espy was honored as a representative of the Class of 1949, 77 years ago, and Velma Freeburg was honored as a member of the Class of 1953, 73 years ago. Also recognized was Doris Ware, a member of the Class of 1955, who is still employed by the school district.
The Class of 1959 had the largest group at the banquet. They were Melvin Thompson, Glen Sinclair, Leon Willis and Jodeen Carter.
Donita Mackey was recognized on her 50th anniversary of her graduation.
The Watonga drumline provided the entertainment for the evening, which culminated in presentation of $500 scholarships to Dominick Meiller, Morgan Wear, Alan Renteria, Nick Grubbs, Serenity Lasiter and Maya O’Dell.
