Area high school seniors were treated Nov. 16 to a symposium on government held in honor of TB and Elva Ferguson. The Friends of the Ferguson Home were sponsors of the event.

Speakers included Aaron Clewell and Debbie Biehier of the Watonga and Chisholm Trail school boards, respectively, Blaine County Commissioners or representatives, and either the elected officials or representatives of the treasurer’s office, the assessor’s office, the county clerk and the Blaine County Sheriff’s office.

Also speaking to the students were District 56 Representative Mike Dobrinski, Senator Darcy Jech, U.S. Representative Frank Lucas and U.S. Senator James Lankford. Lucas and Lankford appeared via video. Associate district judge Allison Lafferty and Watonga mayor Bill Seitter and vice mayor Travis Bradt also addressed the approximately 100 students. The students were from Watonga, Geary and Hydro-Eakly schools.

The event was hosted at the Watonga Lucky Star Casino and Convention Center, and the students had box lunches created by the facility for them.
