Happy Birthday!

Sunday was my birthday but the celebration started a week early with our daughter and granddaughters taking David and me to a late afternoon lunch while her collegebound daughter was home for the weekend. It's hard to make plans with that granddaughter since she's so busy with her studies and extracurricular activities so we snatch a moment here and there when we can.

We ate Mexican food, and I didn't turn down the complimentary sopapilla when offered since I didn't want to appear rude or ungrateful even though I'd been trying to curtail my sweet tooth. They went to all the trouble of making them so the least I can do is eat one. Eating in the late afternoon keeps David and me too full to even think about having anything for supper. That's always a win-win in my book whenever I can get out of cooking.

That evening our daughter texted and asked if we'd like to join her and the girls for brunch at the new breakfast place that opened recently. I had heard glowing reviews on a popular social page, so I was anxious to see if it lived up to the hype. We hadn't tried it yet because it's always packed as any new restaurant is in this town for at least two months until the novelty wears off. They're only open from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. and it's not very large so one has to be patient while waiting to be seated. It was yummy, we headed home, and I felt stuffed– again. Eating out two days in a row does a number on my tummy if you get my drift.

No more eating out, I vowed. Of course, I had also vowed this over a week earlier to see if my tummy troubles were related to eating away from home. That lasted until the above circumstances. Then our son, who has revolving days off, texted on Wednesday. He would like to treat me to a late lunch at a nice restaurant for my birthday. I couldn't say no to my baby boy, now could I? So here he came with our daughter-in-law, eight of their dozen kids plus two service dogs, and off we went. We ended up at a local steakhouse where the food is good but it's a little too 'lively' for David and me. We were served such large, what we thought was supposed to be lunch size, meals that I gave most of my country fried steak to our son because his steak was tiny, and David boxed up half of his country fried steak for our grandson.

To top my birthday off, I received some delicious chocolate-covered fruit and wonderful cookies sent by our niece in Missouri, a small cake from our daughter-in-law et. al., and a couple of lovely gifts from my sister. It was a most wonderful birthday.
