The Watonga City Council at its October meeting approved the purchase of park equipment for Hillcrest Park.
The city had previously sent requests for proposals for the equipment, but all of the bids for the equipment were far higher than the city felt it could spend on outfitting the park. However, City Manager Karrie Beth Little put the equipment on a watch list that would notify her when the prices dropped.
The playground equipment went on sale or reduction earlier in the fall and Little got the notification. She put the purchase on the October agenda and the council approved the amount of $24,940 for the hardware.
In order to keep the costs in check, city employees will do the actual installation of the equipment. There was no word on when the installation will be completed.
