I’m in Tech Heck

I woke up this morning so it was a good day or so I thought. I picked up the remote, thumbed the on button and...nothing. I reset the receiver and waited. And waited. And waited. The message on the screen changed as it went through its paces until it got to the one that said it was updating, downloading, whatever and should be done in five minutes. Then it started again. What the heck? We were able to watch anything not recorded. The downside– having to sit through the commercials I've had trouble with this receiver so, before calling the (non) helpline, I did what I knew the person would ask. I unplugged the receiver. It's annoying when they ask if anything got bumped or if the cables are loose.

A little backstory: For a few weeks now we've been unable to fast-forward any of the programs that are automatically recorded. When I'd hit the fast-forward button it'd jump back to the previous show. Every. Stinkin. Time. I made the dreaded call. The nice fellow on the other end said they were aware of the issue and working on it. I think he lied.

I told my husband, 'You know how some people are cranky in the mornings when they don't get their coffee? Well, this is my cranky. I can't deal with no television.' Anyway...I called again and before the tech could get a word out I let her know what I had already done so she didn't need to bother with her spiel.

Don't just love it when, every time you call, every person gives you the exact same speech? 'We're so sorry for your inconvenience. We're here to help. We value all the years you've been with us.' Yada. Yada. Yada.

After my receiver was declared DOA, I tried to explain to the lady that we're homebound and this is our only source of entertainment. Why do they refuse to quit being so cheap and send the new one within two days?

What really upsets me is (1) Two to five business days is unacceptable. Especially when I have Prime and know it can be here in a day or two. (2) I will now lose everything I've recorded. This being the holiday season I've been stocking up on Christmas movies to enjoy with our granddaughters. (3) Why in the heck can't they have a 'cloud' to save things we'd like to keep? It's like we're back in the 1980s.

Don't get me started on my inability to fastforward through the commercials. They're not entertaining like they were when I was younger. They take up half the program.. Did I mention I'm really cranky? If you don't hear from me next week, you'll know I didn't survive the entertainment drought of 2024 because I'm stuck in Tech Heck!
