GEARY – Snowy roads were behind a slide-off wreck last Wednesday, Jan. 26, that sent a car into a private pond in Geary.

The pond is located off US-281 just southeast of downtown. No significant injuries resulted from the crash, officials said.

Geary police spokesman Terryl Allen told the Watonga Republican that the vehicle, a 2013 Dodge Charger, only had a single occupant during the crash who was able to exit before the car was submerged.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called in to assist with extracting the Charger from the pond. In a Facebook post, the OHP said it recovered the vehicle with a dive team on Saturday, Jan. 29.

“The vehicle was located approximately 30 yards east of the west bank of the private pond,” the OHP wrote. It was submerged in about 10 feet of water, and there was still a quarter-inch of ice on the pond when the OHP made the extraction.

“Our divers dive in all weather!” it said.

In photos, the dive team can be seen pulling the car out with a cable attached to its rear.

Officials are urging caution on the roads this week as more winter weather is expected in the area.
