WATONGA — Recipients of this year’s Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship are Joseph Kalicki and Harley Petty. Both are valedictorians and graduates of the Watonga High School Class of 2022.

Joseph Kalicki will receive a $3,000 scholarship award to support his first year of studies at Oklahoma City Community College, where he plans to pursue a degree in Digital Film Production. At WHS, Kalicki played three sports in addition to serving on the student council. He was elected to serve as president of the senior class. Based on academic achievement, he was selected for membership in both the National Honor Society and the Oklahoma Honor Society. He was a two-time MVP of the Chisholm Trail Academic Bowl and chosen for the allconference team.

Harley Petty was selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship award to support her first year of studies at the University of Oklahoma, where she will pursue a degree in Biology. Her career goal is to become a physician assistant. At WHS, Petty participated in band and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), as well as HOSA, a student group of future health professionals. Based on academic achievement, she was selected for membership in both the National Honor Society and the Oklahoma Honor Society.

The Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship was created by the children of Doris Cupp to honor their mother, a lifelong educator who taught at Watonga High School from 1979-1993. Each of the Cupp children graduated from WHS: Carri (1981), Dondi (1983), Kimbri (1987), Terry (1988), and Kelli and Sean (1991). Each year, the Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship will recognize one or more graduating seniors who have excelled in a wide-range of academic and extracurricular activities at Watonga High School.
