Just weeks after he was fired from the WPD, Shawn Kays was charged with felony first-degree burglary and misdemeanor assault and battery following an investigation from the OSBI.
The charges dated back to a 2019 arrest that was caught on body cam. That footage was later published on social media and finally on local television.
The woman being arrested in that video has since filed a lawsuit against Kays, the City of Watonga, and other former WPD officers. Meanwhile, Kays has appeared several times in Watonga and Kingfisher courts regarding the burglary and assault charges. He has yet to enter a plea.
