Newly elected or re-elected state senators and representatives will be sworn in
Nov. 16. Then they will begin planning and submitting ideas for the upcoming sessions. The bill request deadline for lawmakers is Dec. 9. The ideas are researched by staff but House members can only file eight bills. Senators can file an unlimited number of bills.
Bill requests are usually kept confidential until mid-January, with the deadline set for Jan. 19. Bills may be filed earlier. The first regular session of the Oklahoma Legislature will convene Feb. 6 at noon and bills will get their first reading and be issued numbers. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt will deliver the State of the State address at the session.
On the second day of the session, bills will get a second read and be referred to the committees and work on them will begin. The third reading deadline in the chamber of origin is March 23 and the third reading deadline for the opposite chamber is April 27.
The session will adjourn May 26.
