WATONGA – Watonga’s Liberty Theatre has sat empty for the better part of two years, as the COVID-19 pandemic was followed by extreme weather that set the historic venue back.

But this weekend, locals can finally enjoy the theater again, along with some classic country music. Sherrill Douglas, a Dallas-based entertainer, will visit Watonga for two performances, featuring songs by the great Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn.

The fun starts on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24, with “Once Upon a Dream: Loretta & Patsy Together Again.” The musical tribute to both iconic singers is the “tour that never was.” It will feature Cline hits like “Crazy,” “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “I Fall to Pieces,” as well as Lynn’s biggest singles such as “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Fist City,” and, of course, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

According to Sweet Dreams Productions manager Sandy Clark, Douglas will authentically portray both women in authentic costume and recreate a real concert experience. Douglas said she has been singing country music since age 10.

“Later, I began to sing professionally and I thought it would be fun for everyone if I dressed up as Patsy and Loretta so the audience would feel that they were actually seeing them in concert,” Douglas said. “I am very honored that God blessed me with the voice to present the music of these legendary superstars.”

On Monday evening, Douglas returns with “Crazy ‘bout Patsy,” a full night of Patsy Cline tributes, also at the Liberty.

“Once Upon a Dream” begins Sunday at 2:30 p.m., and “Crazy ‘bout Patsy” starts on Monday at 7:30. Both performances will be at the Liberty Theatre, and tickets are $15 for nonmembers. Watonga Community Theatre members can attend either or both shows for free.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, the Liberty Theatre box office will open for members only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will give members an opportunity to reserve their seats for the performance.

The box office can also be reached at 580-623-9666.
