Friends and family members gathered at Legion Park September 28 for the dedication of a park bench to the memory of Larry Jenkins. Jenkins was considered an elder of the Black community in Watonga and worked at the courthouse and the school system for many years. The spot under a tree at the park was a favorite place to Jenkins, where he would sit and listen to music. He called it “My me time.’ The sentiment is part of the bench’s construction, as is his nickname, Koolman. Jenkins passed away last year after a battle with cancer.
