WATONGA – Watonga Dental is a familiar pillar of the community, but it has seen dentists come and go in the years since it changed ownership.

But now, two dentists with local ties are hoping to stay around for a while and give Watongans big-city care in the same familiar small-town setting.

Dr. Nathan Jacobsen and Dr. Brandon Cohlmia visit Watonga Dental every Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, and hope to increase their local availability in the future. They are accepting new patients, including Spanish-speaking clients thanks to Jacobsen’s trilingual background.

Cohlmia, a 2019 graduate of the OU College of Dentistry, is a third-generation dentist whose grandfather is originally from Watonga. Cohlmia’s grandfather, father and uncle practiced together for years in Oklahoma City, and his uncle continues that practice today.

Cohlmia now practices in OKC and Bethany in addition to his weekly visits to Watonga, where he has now been seeing patients for about a month.

Jacobsen, an Oklahoma City native, also graduated from OU Dentistry in 2017. He now lives with his family in Piedmont.

Cohlmia told the Watonga Republican that the two are general dentists who can handle a wide variety of needs, from teeth cleaning to root canals and emergencies. He thanked the Watonga community for its warm welcome over the past month.

Cohlmia said the staff at Watonga Dental has remained the same since the transition, so return patients will see familiar faces at every step of the way, including the clinic’s hygienist.
