New Hair Salon Now Open in Geary

GEARY – A new business on Broadway in Geary is among the stores helping breathe new life into the city’s historic downtown.

The Shear Bliss Hair Salon opened on Feb. 1 and has already drawn a brisk walk-in business and customers from throughout the area.

Makala Mooney is the stylist behind Shear Bliss. She opened the salon in the former Geary City Hall after extensive renovations to the office space, creating a modern, relaxing setting for her clients.

Mooney told the Watonga Republican she has been a stylist for nearly a decade, graduating from the El Reno campus of the Canadian Valley Technology Center and then working in Yukon for seven years.

Mooney spent the past year at The Lazy Longhorn in Geary before opening her own salon. The Lazy Longhorn space is currently for sale.

Originally from Mustang, Mooney is married to Geary native Kalep Mooney and the couple has two children.

Mooney said her salon offers coloring, perms, and “pretty much all hair-related services” for both men and women. Shear Bliss will soon begin offering spray tans, as well, and lashes in the spring when Mooney’s assistant graduates.

The salon features furniture and jewelry for sale by Maggie Cowan, and Brooke Cowan’s debut novel “Red Dirt Paradise” is available for purchase there. Mooney said the salon will offer prom dress rentals for local girls, and is currently looking for dress donations or those available to purchase.

She said the salon is also looking for someone who can do nails.

Shear Bliss is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and every other Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mooney accepts walk-ins when she’s able, but to ensure service schedule an appointment at 405- 985-5179.

Shear Bliss is located at 125 N Broadway in Geary.
