Streamlining at Service Oklahoma – the tag agencies – will effectively combine the work of two agencies, the department of Public Safety and the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Previously, the independent offices had to navigate two systems.
The offices will integrate the two into one system beginning Feb. 12. On that Thursday the offices will close statewide as all the computers and cameras are replaced. It will remain closed on Friday, Feb. 13. Because Monday, Feb. 16 is a federal holiday – President’s Day – the offices will be closed that day as well, essentially creating a threeday window for the changeover.
Pam Ivins, who operates the Watonga Service Oklahoma office, said the change will increase the speed at which licenses and tags are issued. The office will continue to offer the same services as they previously did. Hopes are, Ivins said, that down the road the offices can offer birth and death certificates as well as other official state issued documents.
“This should make things a little easier,” she said, “With faster processing times.”
