Okeene 4-H, FFA Win Big at State Wheat Show

The Okeene 4-H and FFA members had a very success night at the State 4-H and FFA Wheat Show Banquet. The members first exhibited their wheat in July where it was placed on visuals. From there the top 25 exhibits were sent for addition testing on baking and milling. The final results were announced, and the winners were recognized at the banquet held Dec. 1 at the Embassy Suites in Oklahoma City. Emery Fisher, Okeene 4-H member was named the 4-H Champion along with the Overall Grand Champion with her Doublestop CL Plus Variety. Emery received a $3,000 scholarship and $750 premium from Oklahoma Genetics Inc (OGI) for winning first place. Emery also received a $500 premium for being 4-H champion and grand champion from WestBred and received an additional $350 premium for first place and Grand Champion from the Oklahoma Wheat Research Foundation, along with a $22.50 premium for production, milling, bake contest and trophy. Emery is a fourth grader at Okeene Elementary and the daughter of Clayton and Tara Fisher.

Jayce Shcultz, Okeene 4-H membe,r placed third with her entry of Double Stop. Jayce received a $1000 scholarship along with prize money for placing first in milling and baking. She is a seventh grader at Okeene and the daughter of Loni and Brandon Schultz.

Destry Swaim, Okeene FFA member, placed fifth overall in the FFA division with his sample He exhibited Double Stop CL Plus. He received a $1000 scholarship along with prize money for placing second in milling and baking. Destry is a sophomore at Okeene High School and the son of Brandon and Robin Swaim. Destry also placed 10th place overall with his Strad CL Plus variety.

Other winners were:

4-H Division- Baylea Robison placed seventh with her Strad CL Plus and 16th with her Double Stop. Baylea is the daughter of Garen and Alicia Robison. She is a sixth grader at Okeene Elementary.

Brayson Roberts was eighth with Double Stop. He is the son of Becky Roberts and Shad Roberts and a ninth grader at Okeene.

Tyler Sawyer placed ninth overall with Double Stop CL Plus and 23rd with his Green Hammer sample. He is the son of Brandon and Trisa Sawyer. He is an eighth grader at Okeene Schools.

Logan Chance, Double Stop CL Plus variety was 10th place overall and placed 21st overall with her Green Hammer Variety. Logan is a sixth grader at Okeene and the daughter of Chassidy Bedwell and Jordan Chance.

Landon Poe was 12th overall with his variety of Double Stop. He is a sixth grader at Okeene and the son of John and Emily Poe.

Luke Poe placed 13th overall with his variety of Smith Gold. He is the fifth-grade son of John and Emily Poe.

Bryson Sawyer exhibited two varieties. His Double Stop CL Plus was 14th overall and his Green Hammer Variety was 17th overall.

FFA Division:

Grant Robison placed eighth overall with his Strad CL Plus and 19th with his Double Stop. He is a ninth grader at Okeene and the son of Garen and Alicia Robison Avery Fisher’s variety of Double Stop was 21st. She is the ninth-grade daughter of Clayton and Tara Fisher.

Byer Roberts placed 23rd with his Double Stop Variety. He is a junior at Okeene High School and the son of Becky Roberts and Shad Roberts.

Even with the drought, there were a record number of samples this year and Okeene 4-H had 13 of the top 25 samples and Okeene FFA had five. The Wheat Show is sponsored by the Oklahoma Wheat Commission and OSU.
