A press release from the Plains Collective, a pending non-profit organization working to highlight the art, literature, fashion, filmmaking and other cultural undertakings of Native people, has issued an update on its involvement in the Watonga Cheese Festival.
According to Ramona Tallbear, the collective has agreed to be part of or host the parade, downtown exhibits, a fashion show, powwow and a food demonstration as well as a frybread contest.
Additionally, the Native partners will also take part in or host an art exhibit, vendor sales for artists, a Roman Nose display and hold discussion panels for authors.
Several Native authors, actors and artists have been invited to take part in panel discussions highlighting the cooperation and collaboration that are developing in Oklahoma particularly.
Models for the fashion show are members of the Tribal youth council, showing off clothing from Tribal members or shops.
Hopes for the food demonstration include hosting a Native chef demonstrating cooking culturally appropriate foods using Watonga cheese as an ingredient.
The Roman Nose activities are still in the planning stages, but the intent is to drive visitor traffic.
