EL RENO -- A Georgia man was taken into custody last week after police say he robbed an El Reno Wendy's, then led them on a chase that ended southeast of the Cherokee Travel Mart near Geary.

Khanh Phi Hoang, 21, was booked into the Canadian County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and attempting to elude.

According to a Facebook post from the El Reno PD, dispatchers received a call regarding an armed robbery last Thursday, Oct. 14 about 10:39 a.m. The caller told dispatch that a man had walked in, "brandished a firearm" and demanded money from an employee; he took the money from the cash drawer and left in a gray four-door sedan, heading west on I-40.

El Reno officers located the suspect vehicle a "short time later," police said, and attempted to conduct a stop on I-40. Hoang allegedly ignored their lights and sirens and "attempted to elude the officers and evade arrest." He continued west until he reached Exit 108, at the Cherokee Travel Mart, where he left the highway and headed south on Walbaum.

Hoang then turned east onto Jensen and attempted to turn north onto Mayberry, officials said, but was "unsuccessful in negotiating the turn."

"The suspect vehicle left the roadway," police wrote, "and came to rest in a ditch."

Hoang was taken into custody "without further incident" and transported back to El Reno. His residence is listed as Marietta, Georgia, officials said.

Potential charges against Hoang will be reviewed by the Canadian County district attorney. El Reno police were assisted in the chase and apprehension by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Canadian County Sheriff's Office, they said.
