Prepare for Runoffs

Registered voters in Oklahoma should be preparing to cast ballots in the August 27 runoff elections.

Sample ballots are available at the state election board voter portal Oklahoma.gov/elections/o vp or by stopping by the county elections office during normal business hours.

Blaine County Election Board Secretary Brenda Rice reminds voters that sample ballots are specific to each person. “If the OK Voter Portal indicates that you have no sample ballots available, it means you are not eligible to vote in an upcoming election. We recommend checking the OK Voter Portal to make sure you have an election before heading to the polls,” she said. Sample ballots will be posted outside each polling place on election day.

If a properly registered voter wishes to cast an absentee ballot, the deadline for that application is 5 p.m. August 12.

Absentee voting is available to all voters and applications can be submitted several ways. “In Oklahoma, no excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot, and it’s easy to apply! Voters can submit their application online, in-person, by fax, mail, or even email,” said Allen Arnold, Canadian County Election Board Secretary.

Voters can apply online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp. Applications are also available at the county election board or can be downloaded at oklahoma.gov/elections.

Rice reminds voters that only the applicant can submit his or her own absentee ballot application. It is against the law to submit an absentee ballot application for another person.

Early voting will be an option in both Blaine and Canadian counties from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. August 22-23 and from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. August 24.

Again, no reason is needed to vote early, but it is only available at the county election offices.
