Recognition is awarded to five home sites for their exceptional outdoor presentation. There are five winners based on their geographic location in Watonga:

Area 1 – (West of Highway 8). Richard and Sandra Hightower, 1116 Villa Drive. Area 2 – (North of 11th Street).

Area 2 – (North of 11th Street). David and Brenda Wigington, 579 Sunset Drive.

Area 3 – (East of Forest Ave.) Rod and Delma McDaniels, 800 E. First.

Area 4 – (South of 3rd Street) Anita and Earl Hartfield, 302 S. Weigle.

Area 5 – (Midtown – North of 3rd and south of 11th). Arlyn and Debbie Kennedy, 112 West 4th Street.

One more round of top Watonga yards will be announced in August, according to American Legion Commander Neal Riley. The selection committee has identified 89 yards in contention for the five remaining awards.

Lots of hard work and planning goes into each winner’s yard. One lady was found to be arising with the sun to mow her lawn three times a week. Watering of plants follows.

Consideration is given for overall “look” of the property with regards to flowers, shrubs, trees, care of lawn.

For their troubles, winners are receiving $50 credits at participating merchants. The Legion is currently selling $10 chances on a $2,000 34-inch riding mower from Jackie’s Lawn and Lube. Contact Watonga Abstract, or any member.
