SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Another frosty and snowy week to report. This winter has lasted long enough! You will not hear me complain about the heat in August (if you do, don’t remind me). The snow looks pretty at first, but the cold temperatures kind of take away the enjoyment. We stay busy at the center each week, though. Our menu for the next few days: Thursday, Feb. 20 Liver and Onions Friday-- Fried Chicken Monday-- Chili or Soup Tuesday-- Chicken Fried Steak Wednesday-Kiwanis Meets (Steak Fingers) Thursday, Feb. 27 Chicken Spaghetti Friday-- Roast Beef (Birthday Meal) Our delivery heroes this week were: Hailey Boden, Sharon Barnes, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. They are heroes because they brave the weather each day to deliver meals to home bound individuals. You can call in any day before 10 a.m. for home delivery. We eat each day from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except Wednesday, when Kiwanis meets, when we eat from 11 a.m.- noon.

Quilters this week were Louise Cooper and Margarett Parman. Memberships renewed this week were: Sandra Brown, Sharon Barnes, Robin Sawyer and Becky Rhodd.

Last Friday, we had quite a morning. We celebrated two members’ birthdays and had a going-away party for another member. Delicious cake and brownies were enjoyed by everyone. We also had a group of ladies playing bridge and another group playing cards. It was great to see so many people having fun and fellowship gathered at the center.

On Friday, Feb. 21, nurses from Mercy Hospital will be in to take blood pressure and glucose readings at 10 a.m. We appreciate them coming and providing these services for us.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, we will have fun and games at 6 p.m. for anyone interested. Just bring a snack to share and enjoy cards, dominoes, pool and possibly live music until 9 p.m.

Mark your calendars for April 4 when the Watonga Masonic Lodge is having a fundraiser for the Watonga Senior Citizens Center. It will be a chicken and noodle dinner from 5 -7 p.m. with a cake auction at 6 p.m. More details will be coming soon.

We were able to replace our large freezer, through generous donations of members. We still need a gently used refrigerator and help with our computer. Please keep us in mind.

Until next week, keep warm and be careful on the snow and ice. Check on your neighbors and be kind.
