SENIOR CENTER NEWS

We had a quiet week at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center this week. We were closed on Monday, February 17 for Presidents’ Day and were open the rest of the week, even though temperatures did not get above freezing. Many thanks to Dorothy, our cook and to our delivery personnel for braving the snow and frigid conditions. Deliveries were made by Sharon Barnes, Brenda and Curt Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. You are all appreciated very much!

On Friday, the 21st, nurses from Mercy Hospital came and took blood pressure and glucose readings. This is a wonderful service, and we all need to get checked regularly to stay healthy.

On Saturday, the 22nd, we hosted Fun and Games night at the Center. Eighteen people came to enjoy games of dominoes, cards and pool; as well as live music provided by David Greene and Tom Awtry. This happens every second and fourth Saturday of the month at 6 p.m., and all are welcome.

Our quilters this week were Louise Cooper and Martha White. They may finish the quilt they are working on in the next week. They are doing beautiful work.

Only five weeks until our Watonga Masonic Lodge fund-raiser to benefit the Senior Center. This will be a delicious chicken and noodle dinner from 5-7 p.m., with a cake auction at 6 p.m. The chicken and noodles are homemade, and the cakes are delicious. Mark your calendars for April 4.

Do you think we are through with winter? Last weekend made us feel like it. After the previous week with frigid temperatures, we are all ready for spring. In the meantime, keep happy thoughts and be kind!
