October has arrived! It is the tenth month of the year and the unofficial beginning of fall. We celebrate Columbus Day, Halloween and a monthlong observance of National Pizza Month! For us here in Watonga, it brings with it the 48th Annual Watonga Cheese Festival. On Friday, October 10, we will have a Chicken and Noodle Dinner here at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center from 11a.m. to 1p.m. We will be serving chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, homemade rolls and dessert, with a drink for $7! Before the Cheese Festival begins at 1 p.m. that day, you can dine with us, have a nice place to sit down and eat with regular plates and silverware. After the Cheese Festival opens then you can browse the booths, have cheese samples and listen to live music.
Before then, our menu is: Thursday, Oct. 2 Breaded Chicken Breast Friday Indian Tacos Monday T a c o Salad Tuesday Sausage and Sauerkraut Wednesday Chicken Fried Steak (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, Oct. 9 Meatloaf Friday Chicken and Noodles (Cheese Festival) We eat daily from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except Wednesday, when we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Call any morning before 10 for home delivery.
Our deliveries were made last week by Hailey Boden, Sharon Barnes (2 days), Janice Hood and Brenda Stein. Thanks, ladies.
Our lone quilter again this week was Louise Cooper, and she does marvelous work.
We received donations from Richard and Sandra Hightower for Wanda Roach and Donna Davis. We appreciate them thinking of us.
The Cheyenne Quilt Guild will have a quilt show at the Liberty Theatre during the Cheese Festival. There will be beautiful quilts on display, some made by our local quilt artists. I have a quilt that my parents received for a wedding gift in 1941 and two quilts made by the ladies of the Nazarene Church here in Watonga that will be on display. Come see how quilt fabrics and blocks are the same, yet different. Also, the Quilt Guild will be selling chances on two quilts made by the late Judy Poarch Curtin, to be awarded to the winner at the Holiday Christmas Bazaar on December 6, at the Foley Building at the Blaine County Fairgrounds.
There will be a lot going on in Watonga this week, so enjoy lunch with us before the Cheese Festival!
