SENIOR CENTER News

By Brenda Stein

Christmas 2025 is history! We at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center hope you had a wonderful holiday full of food and family. Our family shared the wonderful food from the community Christmas dinner at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. My out-of-town family were amazed at the organization and efficiency of the process. Then, there was the delicious food. Our thanks to all involved in helping our community come together for this special time.

Next comes New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. To be honest, I have not been awake to celebrate New Year’s Eve in many years, but I hope those of you who do celebrate New Year’s Eve do so responsibly. Many cultures have different ways to celebrate the New Year, such as, opening windows and doors right before midnight to push the bad spirits and energy out of your home; some believe starting the year with empty cupboards can welcome poverty into your life; others toss furniture or dishes out the window to rid themselves of the past and make room for good fortune to enter their lives; cleaning your house can literally sweep away negativity before another trip around the sun; one superstition requires you to walk around with an empty suitcase starting at midnight to encourage a year full of travel and new experiences. Whatever you embrace, we hope 2026 is a great year for you and your family.

Things were quiet at the center last week, only being open three days. On those days Sharon Barnes and Brenda Stein made home deliveries. The center also received a donation from Eldora Horton.

Lastly, we need to discuss New Year’s Resolutions! Common ones are usually health and wellness (exercise, eat healthier, drink more water, etc.); personal growth (learn a new skill, read more books, limit screen time); productivity and organization (get organized, stop multitasking.) Now realistically try being specific: exercise three times per week; focus on one or two key changes; be kind to yourself. Also, come join us at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center for exercise and stay for lunch! Happy New Year!
