SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Welcome to 2026! January is the first month of our calendar year. There are two major holidays in January: New Year’s Day on January 1 and Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19. There are also some month-long observances: Veganuary, try veganism for a month; and Dry January, challenge to abstain from alcohol for the month. I believe I can forego the vegan idea and I do not drink, so these mean little to me. How about you? We also have January 6 as National Bean Day and January 19 as National Popcorn Day. We must celebrate January 26 as Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! It appears there is something to celebrate each day.

Last week was a short week at the center, so here is our upcoming menu: Thursday, Jan. 8 Breaded Pork Loin Friday Steak Fingers Monday Chilior Vegetable Soup Tuesday Goulash Wednesday Barbecue Ribs (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday Jan. 15 Liver and Onions Friday F r i e d Chicken We eat daily, except Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm. Wednesdays we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Call any morning before 10 for home delivery. Deliveries were made last week by Sharon Barnes and Brenda Stein.

We received a donation from Jim and Mae Thompson. Mary Maib renewed her membership. We also received a check from saving Best Choice product labels. If you use the Best Choice products from our local market, Harp’s, save those bar code labels. We get to redeem them for cash. Bring them to us and we will do the rest.

On Saturday night, January 10, we will host our twice-monthly Fun and Games from 6 -9 pm. Bring a snack to share and enjoy card games, dominoes, jigsaw puzzles, pool and live music.

On Friday, January 16, the nurses from Mercy Hospital Watonga will be in to monitor blood pressure and glucose levels. This is a vital service for any age and is free. They are here at 9:45 a.m.

We exercise Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. Come join us and get moving this new year.

Hope January is a great month for all of you and come join us any day. January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day!
