SENIOR CENTER NEWS

We just endured the longest January in history! Between 11 inches of snow and more than 50 hours of temperatures below freezing, it has been a long month. No matter what happens on Groundhog Day, I bet we get six more weeks of winter. Do you think in August when it is 100 degrees outside, we will be longing for these past weeks? NO. The Watonga Senior Citizens Center was closed on Monday, January 26, due to weather. Attendance was low the rest of the week, but we were open and ready to serve you. The menu for the next week is as follows: Thursday, Feb. 5 Breaded Pork Loin Friday Indian Tacos Monday Taco Salad Tuesday Spaghetti and Meat Sauce Wednesday Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, Feb. 12 Chicken Strips Friday Roast Pork The meal price is $7. Call any morning before 10 for home delivery. Our meals this week were delivered by Janice Hood (3 days) and Vernon Brickman. Our thanks to them for braving the roads and snow to deliver meals to those homebound. We eat each day, except Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On Wednesdays, when Kiwanis meets, we eat from 11 a.m. to noon.

Our Fun and Games Gang did not meet on January 24, because of the weather. Our next meeting is set for February 14 at 6 p.m. Remember, that is Valentine’s Day, so that could be a date idea! Bring a snack to share; play cards, dominoes, pool, puzzles and listen to live music.

February 2026 is unique in that it has four Sundays, four Mondays, four Tuesdays, four Wednesdays, four Thursdays, four Fridays and four Saturdays. This is considered a perfect layout and happens only once every 823 years. Events and holidays in February are: February 2, Groundhog Day; February 6-22, Winter Olympic Games, February 8, Super Bowl 60; February 14, Valentine’s Day; and February 16, President’s Day.

Until next week, let’s keep a positive attitude and be kind to each other. Thanks for supporting the Watonga Senior Citizens Center!
