This is the end of February, the shortest month of the year, and we are entering March, which has the same layout, except three more days. One thing to report is that Daylight Savings Time begins this year on March 8. Each year we are told that Congress is going to do away with it, but it hasn’t happened yet. So, leap forward one hour and be confused about bedtime and mealtimes for about a week. One thing you can rely on is that the Watonga Senior Citizens Center is open Monday through Friday for lunch. We eat each day, except Wednesday when Kiwanis meets, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. On Wednesdays, we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Call us any day before 10 a.m. for home delivery. You do not have to eat with us each day, unless you wish to. You are always welcome. Our meals are always $7. Our upcoming menu is: Thursday, Feb. 26 Chicken Fried Steak Friday Roast Beef (Birthday Dinner) Monday Chilior Vegetable Soup Tuesday Chicken Strips Wednesday Chicken Fried Steak Thursday, March 5 Breaded Pork Loin Friday Indian Tacos Our deliveries were made last week by Teresa Bryan, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. Our thanks to them.
Mark this date, April 10, on your calendar because we will have our Annual Chicken and Noodle Dinner and Fund Raiser at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center from 5 -7 pm. This event is sponsored by the Watonga Masonic Lodge and we will have a cake (or dessert) auction at 6 p.m. This is an event you will not want to miss! More information will be coming each week.
We have a new quilt in the framework for hand quilting. It was made by Terri Crawford’s grandmother and features flowers that are handembroidered. If you are a hand-quilter, or want to become one, come to the center on Tuesday mornings and get to work.
On Saturday, February 28, we will host our Saturday Night Fun and Games from 6- 9 pm. Bring a snack to share and enjoy live music, card games, dominoes and other entertainment with the Saturday Night Gang.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, we have exercise classes beginning at 9 a.m. This class is designed to work all parts of your body, but you can participate at your own level. The physical therapists at our local Mercy Hospital say that our program is one of the best in the area. Join anytime for this free service.
March is the bridge between winter and spring, and as the saying goes, it “comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”. Let’s hope that late February winds are not ferocious and no more wildfires start. “Hello, March! Bring with you flowers and sunshine.”
