SENIOR CENTER NEWS

March is here. It is the third month of the year, named after the Roman god of war, Mars. It brings us spring on March 21, the vernal equinox. Another fact is that March and June always end on the same day of the week. This coming Sunday, March 8, will be the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, so remember to ‘Spring Forward’ your clock and lose one hour of sleep. So far, March does not have much to offer us, but we need to think about March’s flower, the daffodil. I have already seen several blooming this year. Also, many basketball fans look forward to ‘March Madness’. No matter what you think about March, the Watonga Senior Citizens Center is open Monday through Friday and serves wonderful lunches. Our upcoming menu is: Thursday, March 5 Breaded Pork Loin Friday Indian Tacos Monday Taco Salad Tuesday Roast Pork Sandwiches and Chips Wednesday Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, March 12 Barbecue Sausage Friday Chicken Fried Steak We eat from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day except Wednesday, when we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Call any morning before 10 for home delivery. Last week meals were delivered by Sharon Barnes (two days), Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. Our thanks to them for their service.

Our annual memberships are $15 per year. Sharon Barnes and Jim and Mae Thompson renewed their memberships. These memberships help, in part, to keep our center operating.

We have a new quilt in the frames, and our quilters last week were Louise Cooper and Martha White.

Last week we mentioned that our Annual Chicken-Noodle Fundraiser, sponsored by the Watonga Masonic Lodge, will be held from 5 -7 p.m. on April 10. The dessert auction will be held at 6 p.m., so mark your calendars for this delicious evening!

Some March Fun Facts: The first telephone call was made on March 10, 1876, by Alexander Graham Bell; the Oreo cookie was introduced on March 6, 1912; March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, and many rivers are dyed green then; and the Eiffel Tower was completed on March 31, 1889. Now you are up to date on March facts, so come join us at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center!
