Senior Center News

The main topic of conversation these past weeks has been the weather! Can you remember the wind blowing like this before, or temperatures in the 90’s in March? And no rain in the future? Wildfire is too common. All we can do is pray for rain and calm winds. One place you can find that is calm and welcoming is the Watonga Senior Citizens’ Center. We are open Monday through Friday to serve our community. Lunch is only one of our services. We also offer exercise classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; we have hand-quilting, adult games nights and Kiwanis meetings each Wednesday. Our menu for the next week is: Thursday, March 26 Chicken Alfredo Friday Roast Beef (Birthday Dinner) Monday Vegetable Soup or Chili Tuesday Chicken Strips Wednesday Chicken Fried Steak (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, April 2 Chicken Casserole Friday Indian Tacos Join us for lunch each day, except Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On Wednesdays, we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Meals are $7 and no tip or gratuity is necessary. If you are a member of the center, annual dues are $15, you will receive a FREE meal on the last Friday of your birthday month. Call the center at 580-623-4511 any morning before 10 for home delivery of your meal.

Meals were delivered last week by: Teresa Bryan, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Stein (2 days) and Janice Hood. Thanks to them.

Our quilters last week were Louise Cooper and Estalene Teply.

Memberships were renewed by Curtis and Brenda Stein.

On Saturday, March 28, we will host our Fun and Games Night from 6-9 p.m. You are welcome to bring a snack to share with the Saturday Night Gang and play cards, dominoes, pool and listen to live music.

On Friday, March 27 or Saturday, March 28, you may see some familiar faces as the Watonga High School Class of 1966 holds its 60th class reunion at the Lucky Star Casino. About 20 members of that class, along with spouses, are set to attend. Best. Class. Ever!

We also want to welcome April, the fourth month of our year. The name April comes from the Latin word aperio, which means “to open”, referring to the season of flowers and trees blooming. The first day of April is also celebrated as April Fools’ Day and April 15th is Income Tax Day. George Washington was inaugurated as the first president of the United States on April 30, 1789. You now know some April facts to discuss at the center when you come to our chicken and noodle fund-raiser held by the Watonga Masonic Lodge on April 10 from 5 -7 p.m. We will hold our dessert auction at 6 p.m. We will see you then!
