On June 19, we have a new national holiday, Juneteenth. It has been celebrated locally for over a century, Juneteenth was officially signed into law as a U.S. federal holiday on June 17, 2021. It commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americas. It marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery. It is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day or Black Independence Day. Many state and local government offices will be closed that day BUT the Watonga Senior Citizens Center will be open. Come join us for lunch.

We are certain that you are aware of the rising costs of food, utilities and wages. After discussing that and considering the alternatives, we have made the difficult decision to raise the price of our meals to $8, effective July 1. We have not raised our prices for quite a long time, and at $8 we are still a bargain! We request that you still support us.
We also want to report that we will be closed on Friday, July 3, to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Most people will probably be celebrating the holiday all month long.
Don’t forget that Sunday, June 21 is Father’s Day. It is a day to remember and honor fathers and father figures for the important role they play in our lives. The idea of celebrating Father’s Day started in the early 1900’s and continues today. Happy Father’s Day to all of our special guys!
