Senior News Center & Resource Guide

Here we are in August, the eighth month of this year. August is special because it marks the peak of summer and was called ‘weod month” by Anglo-Saxons because weed and plants grew very fast in this month. Fresh fruits and vegetables are fully ripe and ready to pick. August has 31 days and no national holidays. Back-to-school preparations are being made and hot weather endured.

You can keep cool during the lunch hours by eating with us at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center. All ages are welcome— you do NOT have to be a senior to eat with us Monday through Friday. We eat each day, except Wednesday, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. On Wednesdays, when Kiwanis meets, we eat from 11 am to 12 noon. Call us any morning before 10 am for home meal delivery.

Our menu is:

Thursday, August 6 Baked Potatoes

Friday, August 7 Indian Tacos

Monday, August 10 Taco Salad

Tuesday, August 11 Chicken Casserole

Wednesday, August 12 Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets)

 Thursday, August 13 Chicken Alfredo

Friday, August 14 Chicken Salad Sandwiches & Chips

Our meals were delivered last week by Joe Bryan, Sharon Barnes (2 days), Brenda Stein and Vernon Brickman. Our thanks to them.

Louise Cooper was our lone quilter last week, and she is almost finished with the quilt in the frames. Come to the Center and see the beautiful hearts quilt hanging on our rack. It was pieced by Becky Ake and hand-quilted by the Center several months ago.

We received memorial donations from the Cheyenne Quilt Club for Donna White and Jim Thompson. Richard and Sandra Hightower donated in memory of Donna White.

On Saturday, August 8, the Watonga Masonic Lodge will hold its monthly breakfast from 7 am to 10 am at the Center. Start your weekend off right with a delicious breakfast. That evening, come back to the Center for Fun and Games from 6 pm to 9 pm. Bring a snack to share with the Saturday Night Gang and enjoy card games, dominoes, pool and live music.

We are busy at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center, but always have time to welcome you. See you soon!
