STILLWATER. — Special Olympics Oklahoma (SOOK) is calling on the community to step up and be part of something bigger, as more than 1,600 volunteers are still needed for the 2026 Summer Games, taking place May 13–15 in Stillwater.
Recognized as the largest Special Olympics event in North America, Summer Games will bring together more than 5,300 participants, Unified partners, coaches, and volunteers from across the state for three days of competition, celebration, and inclusion.
Volunteers play a critical role in making the event possible — from assisting with competitions and handing out awards to helping with logistics, athlete support, and event operations.
“Summer Games simply doesn’t happen without volunteers,” said Paige Martin, Marketing & Communications Director of Special Olympics Oklahoma.
“Volunteers are the reason our athletes get to compete, celebrate, and experience moments they will never forget. It’s an opportunity for the community to be part of something bigger and experience the power of inclusion firsthand.”
No prior experience is required, and individuals, groups, and organizations are encouraged to sign up. Volunteer shifts are available throughout the three-day event, with flexible options to fit a variety of schedules.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
•Sports competition support
•Awards and medal ceremonies
•Athlete escorting and assistance
•Event operations and logistics
•Olympic Village and special events
Whether it’s your first time volunteering or you’re a returning supporter, Summer Games offers a chance to make a direct impact while being part of an electric, high-energy atmosphere.
