The Toy Drive Must Go On!

From Watonga Communicty Theatre

For more than ten years, Watonga Community Theatre has been sponsoring a toy drive to benefit Blaine County DHS foster kids. The drive works in conjunction with a Christmas play to get the community into the Christmas spirit. This year, however, will look a little different. “Through many generous donations, Watonga Community Theatre has raised enough money to renovate the front of the building,” WCT president, Marie Tech said. “The construction will unfortunately prevent us from having a Christmas production.” WCT board members decided, though, that the Toy Drive Must Go On.

The group has organized a drop-off location at the Watonga Tag Agency. Residents can drop toys and monetary donations during regular business hours from now until Nov. 28. Toys will be delivered to DHS in time for the Christmas party. Renovations to the front of the Liberty Theatre building should be completed by the first of the year. This face lift will help give the front of the building a more uniform look and improve the curbside appearance. Upon completion, WCT plans to have a special show to bring everyone back to the building and continue with a spring production as normal. “These improvements wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community,” Tech said. “We are excited to see the improvements and help brighten the community.” What started as a simple idea in 2012 quickly became a favorite community tradition.

WCT wanted to give back to the community that has supported them since 1983. The Christmas production and toy drive started. The organization has been able to donate toys each year that are used during the DHS Christmas party and throughout the year to help ease transitions for area foster children.
