According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, two Weatherford women were killed Saturday in a multi-car pileup on I-40 just west of Geary in Canadian County.
One vehicle was a Peterbilt driven by Cordele Brandon, a 68-year-old of Chickasha. Brandon was treated and released on the scene.
The second vehicle was a 2020 Kia Soul driven by Gracielia Hawkins, 60, of Weatherford. Both Hawkins and her passenger, Maria Daniel, 61, also of Weatherford, were pronounced deceased on scene due to injuries by Pafford EMS. They were pinned in the vehicle, requiring extraction by the Geary Fire Department using the Hurst tool (jaws of life.)
Each was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City.
According to an Oklahoma City media outlet, the pair who lost their lives in the accident were sisters who worked for the Weatherford school district as custodians and had done so for more than 20 years. An account has been set up at Banc First to assist with the cost of the funerals.
The third vehicle was a 2024 International driven by Frederic Lockett, 56, of Sherwood, Ark. He was also treated and released at the scene, as was his passenger, Larence McClendon, 55, of Little Rock, Ark.
As of the date of the report, the accident was under investigation and no cause of the accident had been identified. It was noted Lockett was in a normal state when the collision occurred.
In addition to the OHP, Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, Geary Police Department, Geary Fire Department, Pafford Emergency Services, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma City Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the accident scene.
