Two Opportunities to Support Local Youth

It’s time again to get ready for two separate events that support the youth of Blaine County, the annual Lions Club BBQ Dinner and the bonus auction.

The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 – Thursday of this week. It is held at the Foley building at the Blaine County Fairgrounds.

The anticipated menu is kielbasa sausage, brisket, pulled pork, coleslaw, ranch beans, bread and dessert. The meal is by donation.

The money raised by the event go toward the Lions Club scholarship fund and improvements to Centennial Park, recently acquired by the Lions.

But the biggest draw may be the cake auction. There is a quiet rivalry to see which confection will bring in the biggest bucks. Businesses and individuals get their hands in the air to win cakes and pies while supporting a good cause. Rex Kraft, a Lions Club officer, said it is not too late to donate a baked good for the auction and they do not have to be preregistered to enter the auction.

The second event is put on by the Blaine County Livestock Boosters and benefits 4-H and FFA students. It rewards the students who show at the livestock show on Feb. 16 and is held the next day, Feb. 17.

This event, traditionally known as the bonus auction, will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a complimentary meal. The awards presentation will begin at 6:15, followed by the auction.

Those who wish to donate but are unable to attend may mail donations to the livestock boosters. Donors should indicate if they want to earmark their donation for a particular exhibitor or town. If they do not specify how the donation should be used, it will be divided among all the exhibitors.

Donations (checks) may be mailed to Blaine County Livestock Boosters c/o Alicia Robison, 18129 State Highway 51, Okeene, 73763.
