This Wait is Killing Me

OMG! This is taking way too long. 'Why do you say that?' you ask. Well, I'll tell ya. A few days ago, I was struggling to try and fit a fullsize quilt 'sandwich' into my 'not made for quilting' embroidery machine and getting increasingly frustrated by the minute. Regular-size machines are just not made for such things although several videos on my favorite internet do-ityourself site said otherwise. These women make it seem too easy and simple. Not for me it isn't. I do everything the hard (wrong) way it seems.

After making a baby quilt for our soon-to-beborn great-grandson using my regular machine, I finished a top that I named my 'Fruit Stripe Gum' quilt because of the colorful patches. I pondered which of my myriad tops to tackle next by consulting with one of my granddaughters. She thought I should finish the full-size top I had made many years ago for our daughter's milestone birthday in October.

That's when the trouble started. My tired old machine decided sewing backward was the way to go so I packed it up and set up my embroidery machine. I rarely use it except to embroider names on Halloween treat bags and Christmas stockings, so I was nervous. I didn't want to do anything that would mess this machine up.

While attempting to finish the quilt for our daughter using the embroidery machine. I was mumbling a few choice words that my husband heard. Why is it that he is hard of hearing when I speak normally but as soon as I mumble to myself, he's all ears? He heard me and suggested I just buy a machine made for making all sizes of quilts. 'Do you have any idea how much one costs?' I asked. 'No, but I don't think we'd starve if you bought one,' he answered.

So, I did (buy one, I mean) and that's how I got into delivery hell. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Actually, when I placed the order, it said it would take about a week. The next day I got an email saying it was arriving today (yesterday). I was beside myself with excitement, trepidation, and worry. I checked my messages every few minutes all day. It always said the same thing: Out for Delivery. Twelve hours later I got the message, 'Our bad. It's not coming today.' What??? I wailed.

I got up this morning with a new message. 'It's for sure coming today. By this evening. Well, between 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. We hope.' I threw in that last part, haha. Since I have to sign for it, it being a really large (moneywise) purchase, here I sit in delivery hell. This is torture! It's like being a little kid and having to wait until Christmas morning to unwrap your presents except I already know what's inside, but it doesn't make the wait any easier.
