The Watonga Lions Club hosted Caymon Wieczorrek as student of the month forMarch. He is a senior and set to graduate in May with plans tobecome a volunteer firefighter, an emergency medical technician and eventually attend the police academy and become a highway patrol officer.

Okeene Crash Injures Driver

A Friday afternoon accident in Blaine County injured an Oklahoma City woman. According to a release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Patricia Thompson, 67, was eastbound on east 660 Road east of Okeene when her Infiniti drifted off the roadway for unknown reasons.

Community Gathers to Celebrate Successes

About 200 people filled the banquet rooms at Lucky Star Casino in Watonga Tuesday evening for the community dinner. The event was a fill in for the old Chamber of Commerce banquet. Guests mingled and filled their glasses with tea or water prior to the beginning of the evening’s entertainment.

Open House at WPD

The new offices of the Watonga Police Department were opened to the public on Friday morning complete with coffee and, naturally, doughnuts. The Watonga Economic Development Authority held a coffee social in the newly remodeled space to unveil what used to be city services and the council chambers.

Hinton Facility to Reopen

According to Oklahoma City news outlets, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections has announced it will lease and operate the Great Plains Correctional Facility at Hinton. Operations are set to open in May. Fully staffed, the prison has 264 officers, medical personnel and operating staff.
