Increase in Virus Cases Causes Change to District Schedules

The Watonga School District moved last week to an altered schedule for its middle school and high schools because of the rise of COVID-19 cases in the county and across the state. “These are trying and challenging times for all of us,” a statement on the district’s web site stated.

State Passes 177,000 Cases

As of November 23, there were 177,874 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus in the state, up by 3,544 in the last 24 hours according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. There were fifteen deaths reported in the last day. This brings the death toll to 1,649.

Police Recover Stolen Weapons

The Watonga Police Department hopes the arrest of suspects will help put an end to a recent slew of vehicle burglaries. Day shift corporal Aaron Vales was investigating the burglaries, and while following up leads, located two suspects about 1:30 p.m.

Geary Academic Team Takes on Regionals

Congratulations to the Geary High School Academic Team for placing 5th at Regionals. While they won’t be moving on to Area, they are improving every day. The next meet is Wednesday at home where they will host Fairview and Cashion. The team qualified for Regionals after defeating Watonga in a recent tournament.

Watonga Middle School Scholastics Team Updates

The Watonga Middle School Scholastics team attended its first virtual meet of the year hosted by Chamberlain Middle School in Fairview. Students tested in math, language arts, science, current events, social studies and humanities. The following students placed in their tested subject area.
