District Clarifies Back to School Plan

The Watonga School Board, meeting in regular session Aug. 10, readjusted its return to school plan. The revised plan includes many of the already-agreed upon items, such as self-screening for students and employees for fever or other symptoms of Covid-19. Those who have been diagnosed with the virus may return to school if three days have passed since recovery (no fever), if the patient has improved respiratory symptoms such as cough, and 14 days have passed since diagnosis. If someone has symptoms but does not seek diagnosis, they must meet the first two markers as well as be 14 days since the onset of symptoms.

Pioneer Wins $24M Grant from USDA

Federal dollars are finding their way to this part of Oklahoma, according to a recent press release from Pioneer Telephone Cooperative. That company has nailed down a $24.2 million grant for fiber optic service to individuals in rural Oklahoma. The network will connect 4,480 people, 595 farms, 44 businesses and two fire stations to high speed broadband internet. The facilities will spread out across Blaine, Dewey, Kingfisher and Ellis counties.

The second round of ‘Yard of the Month’ awards were announced this week by the local American Legion chapter. Recognition is awarded to five home sites for their exceptional outdoor presentation.

Pioneer Receives National Customer Service Award

Pivot Group is an independent research provider that monitors Pioneer Telephone’s customer service efforts via follow up calls made to current customers.

Calumet Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident

A Calumet man was injured July 31in a single vehicle motorcycle accident. According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Michael Haydon, 56, of Calumet, was southbound on State Highway 51 A seven miles north of Watonga when his 1999 Yamaha failed to negotiate a curve.

Voter Registration Deadline

According to the Blaine County Elections Secretary, the last day to register to vote or change any information on your voter registration is Oct. 9, in order to vote in the general election on Nov. 3. Call the Blaine County Election Board at 580-623-5518 to check on your registration.

Hi Everyone! Hope you had a great week. I hope you are all still well. People are still staying in a lot, at looks that way at the Center. Most of our meals are being carried out, with a few coming in to eat, but doing social distancing.

No More Home Improvement

Webster's Dictionary defines Home Improvement as being or related to a project to make one's house better, bigger, more modern, etc.; long past time for some home improvements. My definition: Something that is a bad idea for an aesthetically challenged person like myself that can drag on for weeks and cost a small fortune.
