Senior Center News

Welcome, April, from the Watonga Senior Citizens Center! March did come in like a lion, but it did not go out like a lamb. The fierce winds are still blowing and helping keep wildfires going. There is a small amount of rain in the forecast, but we need to pray for more. We do not need rain in the forecast for Wednesday, April 1, to be an April fool’s joke! You can come dine with us at the center any weekday, and we promise you will not get rained on or blown away. We eat from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., each day except Wednesday. That day, we eat from 11 a.m. 12 noon. Call us any day before 10 for home delivery. Our phone number is 580-623-4511. You don’t have to have home delivery every day—you can choose your day from our menu. Our menu for the following days is: Thursday, April 2 Chicken Casserole Friday Indian Tacos (Good Friday, and we will be open) Monday Taco Salad Tuesday Beef Pot Pie Wednesday Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, April 9 Baked Chicken Friday Ham and sweet potatoes Our meals are $7 and that is a bargain. There is no tax, tip or delivery fee charged. Speaking of deliveries, last week our meals were delivered by Teresa Bryan, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. Our thanks to them.

We received a donation from Bill and Lisa Seitter in memory of Doris Winter, Danna Taylor and Sharon Gates. We are grateful for these memorials.

On Friday, April 10, the Watonga Masonic Lodge is holding a fund-raiser for the Watonga Senior Citizens Center from 5 - 7 p.m. We will be serving chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, homemade rolls and homemade desserts. The cost of the meal is $15, or a generous donation. At 6 p.m., we will hold our cake auction, where the area’s best bakers donate yummy, delicious cakes and pies for your bidding. Come and bring your friends and family for a truly delicious meal and entertaining auction.

The next night, April 11, we will hold our Fun and Games Night from 6 9 p.m. Bring a snack to share and play cards, dominoes, pool, and fellowship. There will also probably be live music. Come on in!

Easter comes early this year, April 5. It does not have a fixed date like Christmas or Halloween. Its date is moveable because of Passover, which is influenced by the moon’s cycle each year. The most expensive chocolate Easter bunny cost $49,000; containing 548,000 calories and two solitaire diamond eyes. Before Easter baskets, children would put eggs in a hat filled with straw. Those eggs were dyed with natural ingredients, such as onion peels, tree bark or even flower petals. Americans will eat more than 16 million jelly beans over Easter: not me though. I prefer chocolate eggs!

Have a wonderful Easter and we will see you at our chicken and noodle dinner on April 10!
