The city of Watonga has announced the appointment of Briston Lowry as the new Chief of Police effective June 2.
Lowry has more than decade of law enforcement experience. He has previously served as a sergeant in the Watonga Police Department and as a lead investigator for Blaine County Sheriff’s Office. He is a longtime resident of Watonga and is well known in the community.
Lowry’s former boss, Blaine County Sheriff Travis Daugherty, said “I think this is a great choice and I look forward to building a good working relationship with the Watonga Police Department.”
The selection committee was unanimous in its decision to offer the position to Lowry, according to City Manager Leroy Alsup. In addition to Alsup, the committee members were sitting Watonga Chief of Police Beth Massey, Guthrie Police Chief Don Sweger, Watonga Planning Commission Chair Adam Lovitt, Watonga Board of Adjustment Chair Marcus Wray, and deputy city clerk/court clerk Anitra Harper.
Plans are for Lowry to meet in the coming weeks with community members, local organizations and department staff to listen, learn and share his vision for the future of public safety in our community.
Alsup wrote he hopes the community will join him in offering its full support to the new chief and work together toward a safer, stronger, vibrant Watonga.
