EWS
We just passed the Summer Solstice, on June 21, which is the longest day of the year. It was also Father’s Day. Babies born in June are known as “June Bugs”. June is also National Dairy Month. On June 6, 1944, D-Day marked the Allied Invasion of Normandy during World War II. June is a month of fascinating details and traditions. Let us consider and enjoy them.
At the Watonga Senior Citizens Center, we like to celebrate each day with a home-cooked meal.
Come join us for the following: Thursday, June 25 Chicken Spaghetti Friday, June 26 Roast Pork (Birthday Dinner) Monday, June 29 Chicken and Noodles Tuesday, June 30 Steak Fingers Wednesday, July 1 Chicken Fried Steak (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, July 2 Chicken Strips Friday, July 3 CLOSED If you are a paid member of the Center (annual dues are $15) and you have a birthday in June, you can receive a FREE meal on Friday, June 26. We were serving roast beef, but now are changing to roast pork, which is delicious for our birthday meal. So all of you June Bugs, come celebrate. We eat from 11 am to 12:30 pm, each day except Wednesday. Then we eat from 11 am to 12 noon. Our meals will be $7 until July 1, when we change our meal price to $8 per day. We know you understand why we raised our rates, and we really hesitated to do so. Also, remember we will be closed on Friday, July 3 for the holiday.
Our meals were delivered last week by: Teresa Bryan, Sharon Barnes, Lisa Nelson, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. Thanks to them.
We received a donation of chicken from Mickie Darnell. It was greatly appreciated.
Louise Cooper and Estalene Teply quilted last week.
Patty Becerra came to the Center last week to discuss Medicare information with us. If you have any questions about Medicare, supplements, prescription drug plans, etc., we have her information at the Center and will be happy to share with you.
Also, nurses from Mercy Hospital Watonga came to the Center and took blood pressures and glucose level checks. This is a free service, and they come the third Friday of each month. We all need to keep up with these important areas of our health.
On Saturday night, June 27, we will host our Fun and Games Night from 6 pm to 9 pm. Bring a snack to share while playing dominoes, cards, and listening to live music with the Saturday Night Gang.
Enjoy the rest of the month of June, and gear up for the July 4th 250th birthday of America! Come join us any day at the Center—we welcome you!
